1. European Commission-Alban
the European Commission started up a new program, called
Alban, which gives the opportunity to postgraduate students or students
that have finished their studies at Latin American universities, to follow
a masters program in a European University, or a to do a part of a PhD,
or to do some retraining. The period for the stay abroad must be minimal
6 months and can be maximally 2 years (under certain conditions 3 years).
The European Commission is paying the grants, however, the applicant has
to make the budget
calculation himself. Latin-American students have to apply individually,
with a letter of recommendation of the home and host university (see guidelines
below). A first application round runs untill March 10, 2003 for candidates
who want
to come to Europe during the academic year 2003-2004. An important condition
is that the candidate lives in Latin America at the
moment of application. The aim of this program is really focussed to strengten
the academic world in Latin America.
